Computational Neuroscience of Action Control
We study neural mechanisms underlying action control. This includes how animals select "good" actions and suppress "bad" ones. Specifically, we study how different circuits in the basal ganglia contribute to the control of actions. In my lab we generate computational models of neuronal activity and develop new algorithms for the analysis of electrophysiological data.
My lab is part of the BrainLinks-BrainTools cluster of excellence at the University of Freiburg. One main goal of the cluster is to bridge basic research with clinical applications. For example, we can test algorithms for closed-loop deep brain stimulation in computational models of the basal ganglia to help designing better treatment strategies for patients with Parkinson's disease.
